Creating textures for VR/AR city and bot

To make the textures I first had to go into Maya and screenshot the UV maps for each of the objects I wanted to texture. After I had taken the screenshots I then imported them into Photoshop, First I had to make a new layer for the metal colour of the object for this building I wanted the metal to have a blue tint to it. Then I went into the filterĀ tab, went down to render and selected clouds, then I went to the edit tab and selected fade clouds and used the soft light setting on 65% opacity, then I went to filter and added noise (1-2% depending on the colour).

I then went on to use the lasso tool to copy and paste the shape of the textures onto a new layer, after I had done that I then proceeded to add the cracked and worn effects using custom brushes I found on the internet, after I was done adding the effects I changed the opacity of the layer they were on to 40% and then merged it with the coloured metal layer I then went to the filter tab and selected sharpen.

PhotoShop: Type Tool and Clipping Mask

Type tool and clipping mask

The purpose of this task was to give us a chance to play around and explore more of what Adobe PhotoShop could offer. we have been given an option to one of six styles of alphabet and then pick a letter to use in that style. with the help of the free transform tool I have rescaled my chosen letters to the desired size and position in my square. the letters should have been no longer legible as the aim was to make visually interesting shapes, I have produced six documents using different letters and typefaces. In addition to the first six files I have created another six files but this time experimenting with colour. I used the new fill layer to apply a plain chosen colour as a background.

After that I have been given a quote of a famous graphic designer John Lasseter which I had to retype in one of the given typefaces. the task was to arrange the quote in an attractive and effective layout by resizing and repositioning each of the words. To add on when the arrangement was finished I grouped all layers and found an image of the designer and then positioned the image layer above the grouped layers and selected it. Then I created a clipping mask and the image popped up through the letters. I was very pleased to see the outcome and found out that this technique is very effective so I would adapt it into my further assignments.

As part of the PhotoShop intro, we did some experiments with the basic use of layers and selections in order to be able to manipulate our chosen image. In addition to that I have learned how to set up a grid to help me with the layout composition. I have followed the requirements from the work sheet step by step and once I set up the layers, I have started to experiment with different layer effects and changing the opacity. Furthermore I opened a new document and used my original photograph which had been taken with PhotoBooth. For my second experiment I have used the elliptical selection tool and tried to create a more artistic self portrait from my original image by using a variety of layer effects. The effective outcome in the second image was that i had used resized elliptical and circular shapes which I overlapped for better effect. Overall I am very pleased with the final outcome as I have learned new skills and techniques in PhotoShop, which I am confidant now to use further in my assignments.
